Hi, I'm Kim!

I often tell brides “You will spend more time with your photographer on wedding day than any other vendor, so be sure it is someone you like!” I find it challenging to write about myself, since I believe the focus of One Fine Day Photography is and should be my clients, their thoughts and feelings, emotions and memories.  When in a wedding consult, I love to hear about my couples: where they met, how he proposed, what they enjoy doing together. But for a few moments I will attempt to tell you a little about us.  After all, if you follow my advice, you need to decide if you like us!!

When I started as a professional photographer 18 years ago, I heard several veteran photographers at the time talk about burning out after about 10 years.  I remember telling myself if that is how I feel down the road I will find another occupation. My clients deserve better than that.  I still say that today, and every Saturday or Sunday, or sometimes weekdays when I wake up on wedding day I have the same excitement I did in the beginning, but much less nervousness!! As I shoot a bride getting dressed, the shoes (always the shoes), the first glance with the love of her life and so many “firsts” throughout the day, I smile.  I smile because I have the opportunity to do something I truly enjoy. I smile because I am genuinely happy for my couples as they start forever together, full of love and hope for the future.

On your wedding day, you will see Melia, my associate photographer, and myself with smiling faces.  I’m the outgoing one who can be pleasantly bossy when necessary, like when the groomsmen are an hour late coming off the golf course at the Grand Hotel in Fairhope and I am trying to keep the day on schedule.  My favorite part of the day is when the dad comes in the room and sees his little girl all dressed and ready to walk down the aisle.  I also enjoy laughing at Melia as she tears up during the father/daughter dance, especially if it’s a country song.

Melia is quieter and generally the one chasing down the groomsmen.  She is the one who is great at finding different angles and capturing those fun candid moments.  Melia’s favorite part of wedding day is, of course, the father/daughter dance.  She also seems to enjoy taking some unflattering images of me during the day, while I'm being “pleasantly bossy” or bending over fixing a train!

When I’m not shooting or editing, you will find me at the gym, at my “satellite” office on Dauphin Island, and with the love of my life, this big yellow furry four legged angel beast.  Yes, I am married. But if you are a dog lover, you get it!  Melia can be found chasing four children.  This is what makes her so good at working with groomsmen! Just kidding... sort of.

Our photography adventures have allowed us to be part of many wedding days in Mobile, AL, Fairhope, AL, at the beach in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Dauphin Island and along the Alabama, Mississippi and Florida Gulf Coast.  Destination weddings have taken us to Atlanta, GA, Grayton Beach, FL, along 30A, Lafayette, LA and even Kona, Hawaii.
